"The wandering scholars were bound by no lasting loyalties, were attached by no sentiment of patriotism to the states they served and were not restricted by any feeling of ancient chivalry. They proposed and carried out schemes of the blackest treachery."-C.P. Fitzgerald.

...and still Champion!

...to the voters of the state of California for turning out Gray Davis, professional schmuck.

As of this writing, 12:25 a.m. Eastern Time, Arnold Schwarzenegger has been declared the winner by all networks and wire services since 8:01 p.m. Pacific Time. It was a reasonably good choice, given the fact that the Democratic replacement candidate, Lt. Governor Cruz Bustamante, was awash in illegal campaign contributions from the state's Casino Tribes. That crazy talking head Chris Matthews was even claiming that the tribes wanted to buy land in the cities (close to black and Latino neighborhoods, of course), declare them Tribal Lands, then put slots and gaming tables right smack dab in the middle of the Neighborhood.

Two words: Jesus wept.

It wasn't even close. Schwarzenegger looks like he'll walk away with 50 percent of the vote. It's a landslide, of course. I was betting Schwarzenegger at 42 percent last night. Looks like I underestimated the disgust of the California voter with the Regime.

Finally, Tom McClintock gave a good account of himself tonight, and had a classy concession speech.

Now to binding up the Republican party and to the business of governing. More on that tomorrow.

But for this one brief moment, it is good to be a conservative.
