"History will be kind to me, for I intend to write it."-Winston S. Churchill

"The wandering scholars were bound by no lasting loyalties, were attached by no sentiment of patriotism to the states they served and were not restricted by any feeling of ancient chivalry. They proposed and carried out schemes of the blackest treachery."-C.P. Fitzgerald.

Hurricane Frances

...was a 140 mph killer hurricane some 36 hours ago. Thankfully, the Bahamas archipelago appears to have slowed it down enough for a nice wind shear to disrupt the storm. It is moving WNW at between 4 and 6 mph and retains winds of between 105 and 115 mph.

Now, as to Bush's convention: a masterwork of anticipation and issue framing. I will comment in the next post, but the bottom line is that Bush's campaign has the meat of issues on the bone of a campaign.

I know; call the tortured metaphor police. The central fact of the campaign is rather simple, however: Bush has something to campaign on and for, while Kerry's campaign recalls a dinner table remark of Winston S. Churchill:

"Take this pudding away; it has no theme."

Meantime, Andrew Sullivan can't get past the fact that Mary Cheney, Dick Cheney's lesbian daughter, wasn't on the stage for Bush and Cheney's "ticket shot".

More, later.
